With more and more video games fighting for shelf space at your local retailer, sometimes there comes a game that?s so different from everything else that you just can?t help but notice it. When it comes to The Behemoth?s Alien Hominid, this game?s unique story actually began online as a Macromedia Flash based game.

A couple of developers released a Flash-based version of this game online to a website called Newgrounds in 2002. Alien Hominid was eventually downloaded over seven million times which led to the formation of The Behemoth in 2003.

Now that may sound like a familiar story in the business world but Alien Hominid is not your ordinary game. Unlike today?s graphic intensive 3D games which require more sophisticated hardware with every release, Alien Hominid is focused on quality game play, big explosions and even bigger enemies. If you?re a fan of the classic side-scrolling arcade shooter Metal Slug, then you will absolutely love Alien Hominid.

Alien Hominid from The BehemothWhat?s an Alien Hominid
The little yellow alien crash lands on Earth and has his spaceship hauled away by the FBI. Your mission is to fight your way through FBI agents and some very big enemies at the end of the levels towards regaining your spaceship. This is easier said than done as you will need to maneuver all around your screen as enemies come from every angle. I can say now that you WILL use every inch of your TV screen to play this game.

The Game
Alien Hominid contains 16 levels of action that will have you jumping, rolling, ducking and blowing up everything in your path. Taking a closer look into Alien Hominid, there?s a lot of moves that you will need to master to defeat the big bosses. Along with the usual movements like move, jump and duck, you also have the ability to roll, back flip, use vehicles, toss grenades and even dig for cover (extremely useful). More advanced moves are the various freak attacks.

After performing the freak attack move, you can then ride your enemy and even control them using your left control stick. Now that?s pretty cool. You can also grab and throw enemies and even bite their heads off!

As you continue on in the game, you will be awarded with various hats for your alien friend. With over thirty hats to unlock, you need to accomplish a lot to get them all but it?s worth it. C?mon, you know you want to see them all anyway.

Alien Hominid from The BehemothYou can play with a friend in multiplayer mode so you can share the action. This is a lot more fun not just from the play standpoint but you can also transfer shield points between them.

Alien Hominid?s interactivity with the surrounding environment is what makes this game a lot of fun. It?s not just shooting left and right, you can also jump on boxes, rooftops and vehicles. You can also climb into those vehicles and go for a quick ride while continuing your shooting barrage.

The Final Word
Alien Hominid is a wildly fun, challenging and addicting game that will have you coming back for more. Although the game does simulate blood during battle, the game does provide an option where you can choose to display blood or play without it, which is great for the younger players.

To get the most out of this game, you should really try to master all of the advanced moves and use the vehicles. This will enable you to fight off the hordes of enemies quickly without losing much of your health.

Even the hardcore gamer will have a tough time putting this game down. There?s never a dull moment in the game as enemies will come from the left or right sides of the screen or even slide down ropes. The big bosses are extremely tough as they don?t leave you much room to maneuver. This is where you really need to jump, roll and throw those grenades. If that doesn?t work, you can always hop onto their back and go for a ride. Whether you jump your way around or dig yourself a hole, the folks at Behemoth have given you many options to keeping your little alien friend alive.

To add to the game?s value, Alien Hominid even offers a level editor so you can build your own maps. The interface is pretty easy and you?ll be amazed how quickly you can build a map.

Alien Hominid is a game that anyone can pick up pretty quickly and begin fragging away. The game represented a nice change of pace for me since I had been in a first person shooter mode for a while now. It?s a great change of pace to play a game that is focused on fun and plenty of action.
