WHEDco's Bronx Music Heritage Center Announces New Spring 2013 Season of the Groundbreaking Arts Series, Bronx Rising - Music, Film & Spoken Word of the Borough

Bronx, NY (PRWEB) March 22, 2013

(Bronx, NY) This spring, folklorist Elena Martínez of City Lore and Grammy-nominated musician Bobby Sanabria will co-curate the second season of the acclaimed arts series Bronx Rising! Music, Film & Spoken Word of the Borough at the Bronx Music Heritage Center (BMHC) Lab.

Building on the momentum from Bronx Risings fall/winter season, Bronx natives Martínez and Sanabria will continue to showcase the breadth of arts about the Bronx, by Bronx artists or significant to the Bronx Community, with live music, film screenings, comedy, poetry, literature and discussions.

The Bronx has a long history of musical, artistic, and literary talent emerging from here, says Martinez, the co-producer of the ALMA-award-winning film, From Mambo to Hip Hop, about the creative life of the South Bronx. Sanabria, whose name graces a Bronx street in recognition of his contributions to music and the arts, adds Bronx Rising looks to our roots and our future; for a few months, it will make the BMHC Lab an epicenter for some of the always-swirling creative juices of the Bronx.

The BMHC Lab will host Bronx Rising events on the third Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays of each month, beginning in March. Co-sponsored by City Lore, the series will focus on a different artistic form each night, with live music and jazz played on Thursdays from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm; film screenings and Q&As on Fridays from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm; and palabras/words -- comedy, poetry and literature -- performed on Saturdays from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
