Technology-based character education program enables students and teachers with a better classroom experience (July 17, 2014)

PRESTON, Md., July 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- In early June, educator Bobbi Callis launched an Indiegogo campaign to fund her dream to create a technology-based character education system for children Kindergarten through eighth grade. That campaign is now entering its final week available for pre-order, and Callis is determined to move forward with the program.

"It's been a crazy ride, and this is just the beginning," says Callis. "We're hoping for a final push in the last week of our campaign, and we're also up for several different awards and grants, including the Rosalind S. Jaffe Award. We're definitely raising awareness about the need for our program, and we're going to continue our journey to do so."

Veracity Matters is a supplemental character education program intended to last 28 weeks. The lessons are designed to be short and efficient so that teachers or home school families can blend them seamlessly into their instructional day. The program uses seven high-interest themes for the different units, such as pirates and fairy tales to help keep children attentive and excited about their lessons.

The lessons provide children with practical strategies for dealing with stress, anger and depression, in order to combat many issues that face children in the education system today. Using yoga and other movements, Veracity Matters gets children out of their desks so they can be properly focused. It also ties in across the curriculum to give an average science volcano lesson some takeaways about how to deal with anger, or an average math lesson about how to be more empathetic with others.

All materials, including lesson plans, games and interactive videos, will be included with a subscription and accessed through an online portal. Teachers and parents no longer have to deal with books or CDs when accessing the program, as it is aligned with modern technological capabilities that other character education programs aren't.

For those who support Callis' mission and would like to be a part of her program, the Veracity Matters curriculum overview is now available on the website. Principals, teachers, and parents can purchase a subscription for the 2014-2015 school year. For details, visit www.veracitymatters.com. ABOUT VERACITY MATTERS

Veracity Matters was founded by Bobbi Callis in 2014. An educator for twenty years, Callis noticed a severe decline in many important values and principles in her students. Callis began to focus her time and energy on developing a program that would help young children realize the importance of values such as empathy and perseverance. Veracity Matters aims to give every child the opportunity to learn and grow in an atmosphere where negativity and bullying cease to exist.
