The Importance of Planting the Seeds of Imagination Early

Liverpool, NY (PRWEB) June 03, 2014

Schools are making budget cuts to creative programs nationwide, but at what cost to students imagination?

As an educator, Mary Ann Niemczura understands the importance of the formative years of childhood. She taught German for 47 years and was a Fulbright Exchange Teacher in Germany for two years, which broadened her world as well as her views of teaching young minds.

Her new poetic memoir A Past Worth Telling promotes playing, learning and exploring the outdoors as an alternative to time spent with technology.

The poems have been immensely enjoyable for others who have rediscovered the more quiet times in life where play was not dominated by adults, Niemczura said. Organized activities were few and children were free to rely on their imaginations to create games and play with others.

A Past Worth Telling recalls fond childhood days as seen through the eyes of family members as well as the author herself. Settings include Massachusetts, New York, Colorado and Germany.

Niemczuras new memoir appeals to adult readers wanting to travel back in time to their own childhood and to young audiences that have grown up with an abundance of technology and overbooked activities. Young readers will get a feel for what life was like for their grandparents.

Drawing upon her career in education and experiences described in her new book, Niemczuras hope is that readers will be reminded of the importance of lifelong learning and acceptance of other cultures and foreign languages.

I AM a teacher, I live, breathe, eat and sleep being a teacher, Niemczura. I know many will never travel outside the U.S., so my stories are a way to transport them to other places.
