Thalmic Labs Strengthens Its Board of Directors by Appointing Dennis Kavelman as Its First Independent Director

Thalmic Labs Continues to Strengthen the Team Behind the Myo(TM) Gesture Control Armband, a Device That Allows for Wireless Control of Digital Technologies With Simple Hand Gestures and Movements (February 26, 2014)

WATERLOO, ON -- (Marketwired) -- 02/26/14 -- Thalmic Labs, the maker of the innovative Myo armband, today announces the addition of Dennis Kavelman to its Board of Directors. Kavelman joins the board alongside Stephen Lake, CEO and co-founder of Thalmic Labs, and Nabeel Hyatt, Venture Partner at Spark Capital.

Kavelman becomes a member of the board as the company's first independent director. As the former CFO and Co-COO at BlackBerry and the current COO at Desire2Learn, he has a long history of success with technology companies in the Kitchener-Waterloo region.

"I am amazed by technology that Thalmic Labs has developed and pleased to become a part of its board," says Kavelman. "The company has created an alternative input device that is worn on the forearm, enabling muscle sensors to understand your gestures, letting you use your hands to play video games, flip through slides or screens, or turn up music. I'm excited to be a part of the innovation that is yet to come."

Thalmic Labs has also expanded the executive team to include Anand Janefalkar, VP of Hardware Engineering. "While I was not planning on leaving sunny California, I was immediately drawn to the company once I heard about the Myo armband," he said. "I joined Thalmic Labs three months later." Janefalkar formerly worked at Motorola, Lab126, and Jawbone. He left San Francisco to join the expanding team at Thalmic Labs.

"Thalmic Labs has recently attracted talent and strategic thinkers from across North America and internationally," said Stephen Lake, CEO and co-founder of Thalmic Labs. "We are delighted to see such interest and demand for our newest innovations."

Thalmic Labs is continuing to grow its team while it continues to accept pre-orders at www.thalmic.com. The company started shipping Alpha Myo units to developers in late 2013 and will be shipping final Myo units to pre-order customers in mid-2014.
