Texas Company Turf Feeding Systems Brings Sustainability to the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil

Houston, TX (PRWEB) April 01, 2014

The 2016 Olympics in Brazil will be sustainable. Turf Feeding Systems, a Texas company, will take part by reducing the use of water, fertilizer, chemicals, labor and energy on the golf course being built for the new golf competition, with the companys fertigation system.

The 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil is important to golfers for several reasons. It will be the first time in 100 years for the Olympics to host golf as competitive sport, and a special new golf course is being built in Rio de Janeiro just for the golf competition. The golf world is excited and all eyes are on the design and construction of the golf course in Rio.

New sustainability measures have been set for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics.

A new set of sustainability measures to support the greening of the Rio Summer Games were agreed upon by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics Organizing Committee, as part of an implementation agreement signed by both organizations.

The President of the 2016 Olympics has set a high standard for the Olympics in Brazil, "Sports can and should play a leading role in the promotion of a more sustainable world," said the Rio 2016 President, Mr. Carlos Arthur Nuzman.

Turf Feeding Systems is the leading company implementing sustainability into any irrigated area. The company has worked on the construction of golf courses around the world for over 28 years. Their fertilizer injection systems inject nutrients into every drop of irrigation water to make it sweet to feed the plant and soil. This method reduces water, fertilizer, chemicals, labor and energy, while improving the quality of the soil.

This fertigation program, using liquid fertilizer and soil nutrients, is more efficient than the traditional use of dry fertilizer. Few know that less than 45% of any type of dry fertilizer ever gets to the plant. Most of the dry fertilizer is lost below the roots and goes into ground water to cause pollution.

Fertigation is the most efficient way to feed the plants and soil. Up to 95% of the nutrients applied by fertigation are taken up by the plants. Additionally, it is the fastest way to grow-in grass on a new golf course.

The Turf Feeding Systems fertilizer injection system was selected for the project which is being built to the specifications of Larry Rodgers, the irrigation designer. Larry Rodgers is one of the leading irrigation designers (Larry Rodgers Design) and has had years of experience with fertigation on golf courses. His design for the injection system will have multiple pumps to inject several nutrients and soil amendments simultaneously to prescription feed the golf course. Mr. Rodgers also specified a fertilizer mixing system to utilize local Brazilian domestic fertilizers and nutrients on the course, which is another principle of being sustainable.

Neil Cleverly is the superintendent on the Rio golf course for the construction and the management, and is supported by Mike Johnson, the agronomist with the USGA. Both are experienced experts and understand the values of fertilizer injection and sustainability on this special golf course.

Turf Feeding Systems is proud to take part in this project and is supporting this special 2016 Rio Olympics with supervision on the installation as well as technical support and local nutrients sourcing. This can be the most sustainable Summer Olympics in history.
