SpeakinMotion Highlights Apraxia Awareness for the Final Days of the Awareness Matters iPad Minis Promotion(May 14, 2013)
Arlington, VA (PRWEB) May 14, 2013
SpeakinMotion, a worldwide provider of speech therapy solutions teamed up with other members in the community to support Autism Awareness and Stroke Awareness during the months of April and May. With the assistance of the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America (CASANA), the focus will be on apraxia awareness for the remainder of the promotion. Thus far, the promotion has given away many prizes from generous developers and organizations such as: SATPAC, MyTalkTools, Abilipad, Dandelion Moms, Penelope the Purple Pirate, Ellies Games, Tactus Therapy Solutions, Speech with Milo, and National Aphasia Association. SpeakinMotion will also be giving away 2 iPad minis at the conclusion of the campaign from the thousands of entries. The giveaway has helped spread autism and stroke awareness through the featured facts and stories from bloggers and raised funds for Autism and Stroke non-profit organizations such as Autism Speaks.
SpeakinMotion also discounted their apps throughout the promotion but has further discounted their speech therapy apps on May 14th in honor of Apraxia Awareness Day. Their applications deliver a unique approach to speech therapy called the VAST program. The VAST program is an innovative research based application of video technology designed to facilitate and improve communication abilities for speech-impaired individuals. At the most basic level, a VAST video is a close-up video of a trained models mouth (along with synchronized audio) as they speak (or sing) a written script. The user watches the video (with optional written text), listens to the audio, and attempts to speak simultaneously with the model. With repetition and practice, this allows individuals to speak full sentences and communicate themselves. Many individuals on the Autism Spectrum or who have suffered a stroke are diagnosed with speech language disorders such as apraxia. SpeakinMotions family of apps include: apraxia therapy apps, songs apps, and autism apps. These apps have successfully been used in speech therapy to help individuals with speech disorders communicate themselves.
SpeakinMotion will continue creating awareness but will concentrate on apraxia awareness through the end of its Awareness Matters campaign (May 15th). Apraxia is among the most severe speech and communication problems in children. Affected children have difficulty planning and producing the precise, highly refined and specific series of movements of the tongue, lips, jaw, and palate that are necessary to produce clear, intelligible speech. A guest blogger for the campaign, Tori, contributed by describing her sons journey with childhood apraxia of speech. Tori details her son Jakes struggles but also his great progress. We are beating apraxia. One word, one sentence, and one song at a time.
With the assistance of the Awareness Matters partners, The iMums and CASANA, SpeakinMotion will highlight apraxia related facts and stories to help educate about the needs, challenges, and abilities of children affected by apraxia. By sharing these apraxia related facts and stories, the campaign hopes to create apraxia awareness and inspire donations.
CASANA will also be using social media to mobilize families, friends, and professionals to help educate and raise apraxia awareness. An online Apraxia Awareness Day store has been set up to purchase t-shirts, buttons, and other awareness items. The first Apraxia Awareness Day will include an online apraxia quiz, Twitter chat, contests, and a question and answer webinar. For more information on Apraxia Awareness Day visit the CASANA Facebook page.
