When Spain travels to Brazil later this year, they will be competing in Group B against the Netherlands, Chile and Australia. It is a group that many pundits are predicting a 3-0 record and is one that Spain should be able to advance to the Round of 16 from.
Their opponent at FedEx Field on June 7 isnt known as one of the best teams in the world and isnt even ranked in the top 50 according to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association. FIFA currently has El Salvador ranked as the 78th best team (as of press time) in the world, while Spain is the ranked No. 1, a position they have been in for quite a while. El Salvador failed to qualify for the World Cup this year, making it the eighth straight World Cup that they will be watching from home. In their only two appearances in the cup, El Salvador has a combined 0-6 record and has been outscored 22-1.
El Salvador is also competing in the Road to Brazil on June 4 in Frisco, Texas against Ivory Coast and will be hoping to play the spoiler in both games. With most fans counting them out, this young and hungry team will be looking to gain valuable experience.
FedEx Field is the home of the Washington Redskins of the National Football League ever since it opened in 1997.
