Oakhurst, California (PRWEB) June 10, 2014

Every year, since the early 90s, Oakhurst, California has held an Honorary Mayor race. This small unincorporated town raises funds for local charities through the events held by each participant. One such event is the inaugural Sounds of Solstice Music Festival coordinated by Mat Sands on behalf of The Boys & Girls Club of Oakhurst. The festival will begin at 12 oclock noon on Saturday, June 21st till 8:00 p.m. with the first band taking the stage at 1:00 p.m. at the Oakhurst Community Park.

Six bands/artists are scheduled to perform; including this years headliners Ten Ton Chicken of Berkeley. This well-known band has been travelling to music festivals for many years and will be a great addition to the lineup for the inaugural event of the Sounds of Solstice Music Festival. Danny Sands of Palm Springs will be playing well-known rock, blues, and pop songs. Richfield of Fresno is scheduled to hit the stage with a little bit folk and a little bit country. Oakhursts very own Centerville has a sound that is a cross between rock and country. Another local band The Fanatiks, and the Cameltones from Berkely will give the crowd a taste of classic and modern rock.

Mat Sands is a local man who was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis at 13 months of age. He was the poster child for the Southern California Arthritis Foundation for several years. The family moved to Oakhurst when Mat was 10, he graduated Yosemite High School in 1996. After graduation Mat moved to Berkeley where he worked for a Bay Area Internet Service provider. In 2001, Mat moved back to Oakhurst and began his own web-design business, Oakhurst Online.

The Boys & Girls Club of Oakhurst Board of Directors approached Mat to run for Mayor in the 2014 campaign. Mat accepted without pause. Being raised in the Mountain area, I know first-hand that there is not a lot to do when you are a child in a small town like Oakhurst, said Mat of his accepting the honor to run for Mayor on behalf of the Boys and Girls Club of Oakhurst.

At 7:00 p.m., an unrehearsed performance dubbed, The Sounds of Solstice Jam will give all of the musicians the opportunity to play a set with the instrument of their choice. Mat Sands says, This is sure to be an unforgettable experience for the musicians, as well as the audience.

In addition to great music, a bounce house, water toys and games for the kids gives this event a little something extra for the whole family. Delicious Food booths, South Gate Brewing Company Beer and Idle Hour Wine are must haves for attendees. Sierra Fly Fishing Tours will offer free fly fishing demonstrations, KT-Lee Ranch will feature their Alpacas, and Courtney Lynn art will be available for purchase.
