Sochi 2014 experience transferred to PyeongChang

MOSCOW, June 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --A delegation of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, headed by Organizing Committee President Dmitry Chernyshenko, has flown to the Republic of Korea, where from June 28 to July 05, the city of PyeongChang will host the IOC Debriefing of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, an event devoted to the transfer of knowledge from the 2014 Games organizers to the Organizing Committees of the next Olympic Games.

The President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, Dmitry Chernyshenko, emphasized:

The excellent organization of the Games in Sochi was also confirmed by the main heroes - the athletes. Short-track Olympic gold medalist Viktor An emphasized:

"It is largely thanks to brilliant organization that the Sochi 2014 winter Games entered the history of the Olympic movement. Athletes were accommodated in the best possible conditions, allowing them to fully concentrate on training, and the distance to the sports venues was minimal, while transport was efficient and on time. The first Russian Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games were officially recognized as successful and received top marks from the leadership of the IOC, IPC, International Sports Federations, National Olympic and Paralympic Committees, participating countries and athletes. IOC President Thomas Bach characterized the Olympic Games in Sochi as excellent in terms of organization.In turn, IPC President Sir Philip Craven said the Paralympic Winter Games of 2014 were the most successful ever.

During the event dedicated to summarizing the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2014, a delegation of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee will participate in a number of plenary sessions and meetings, which will discuss various aspects of the Games related to planning, operational activities for different functional areas (sports, accommodation, transport, culture, education, logistics, etc.), as well as technology. The organizers of the 2014 Games will share with representatives of the Olympic and Paralympic Family practical experience in creating a unique brand and a strong model of Games management. At the same time, the delegation of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee has not set itself the task of providing standard solutions, and wants to show the Organizing Committees, how they can most effectively apply the Russian experience in international practice.

The delegation of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee that departed for South Korea consists of 65 people. Other members of the Russian delegation include representatives of the Ministry of Sports, Ministry of Energy, and partners of Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee: MegaFon, Rostelecom, Microsoft and Avaya (a total of 15 people in support of the technology section of the debrief). Others also participating during the debriefing include IOC and IPC representatives and in particular, their presidents Thomas Bach and Sir Philip Craven; a delegation of the Organizing Committee of PyeongChang 2018; the South Korean Minister of Sports; the Governor of Gangwon Province; the Mayor of PyeongChang; and the Organizing Committees of Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, as well as representatives of the candidate cities to host the Winter Games in 2022.

The official debriefing of the Games consists of three parts: Technology (June 25-27, 41 sessions), IOC session (June 29-July 2) and IPC session (July 04-05). The central part of the official IOC event will be 19 topical sessions, combined into five sections: creating an attractive product, creating a strong management model, work with stakeholders of the Olympic Movement, preparation for the Games (staff and test events), as well as direct staging of the Games (venues, services - accommodation, arrival and departures, accreditation, security, catering, transport and logistics).

The Games in Sochi were set a number of records in a number of parameters, there was great interest among spectators and the media, the entire country was involved in Games preparation and staging. The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee sold over 1.1 million tickets for the Olympic Games.

The Games in Sochi were broadcast by 464 channels around the world - almost double that at the previous Winter Games in Vancouver. The Games in Sochi became the first digital winter games, showing a record interest by users of social networks.The official #Sochi2014 hash tag was used 13 billion times on social networks and the total number of comments about the Games exceeded 23 billion.

Thanks to unprecedented support from leading international and Russian companies, the total income from the Sochi 2014 marketing program exceeded $1.3 billion, which is more than triple the Bid Book's obligations. At the same time, the operating profit of Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee may total approximately 9 billion rubles, including cash and transferable property.

According to Nielsen research company1, the Olympic Games in Sochi completely or significantly exceeded expectations of the overwhelming majority (94%) of Russian residents, and 75% of Russians believe that the significant legacy of the Sochi Games will work to the benefit of the country for many years to come.
