Skate Canada Launches iPhone App to Engage Fans and Athletes Anytime, Anywhere

  (February 20, 2013)

Ottawa, Canada (PRWEB) February 20, 2013

The Skate Canada iPhone application (http://ow.ly/hRxAi) will allow users to follow Canadas talented skaters from the sectional competitions through to the Canadian Tire National Figure Skating Championships, and to the world championships. Detailed results are posted rapidly during the competitions, along with live-streaming news, Twitter and Facebook feeds. The application will allow users to check out the latest videos and pictures. They can even share where they are actively participating in skating in Canada with their friends.

The application was developed to evolve and showcase both todays world class Canadian skaters and engage with the national team members of the future. The first community to test the App will be the competitors and fans attending the Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships in Calgary, Alberta. Feedback from users at the event taking place February 21-23 at WinSport Canadas Athletic and Ice Complex, will be used to update and adapt the App in time for the upcoming ISU World Figure Skating Championships®.

Mobile devices have become our everyday companions; we eat, sleep and train with them, said Cheryl McEvoy the Chief Operating Officer of Skate Canada. With the release of the Skate Canada iPhone application, we will be sharing the latest skating information and engaging our fans and athletes on the devices they are using every day.

The Skate Canada iPhone application also includes surveys to engage fans and athletes on issues of interest. These surveys will be able to capture real-time, live feedback from fans and athletes, which will be used to better serve the Canadian skating community.

The Skate Canada iPhone application was developed by Purple Forge. Purple Forge is the award-winning provider of mobile applications to associations, governments and event driven organizations.

"Canadians have come to depend on their smartphones and tablet devices for the latest information about the topics they love," said John Craig, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing at Purple Forge. "Excellence in skating is a passion shared by a wide number of Canadians, and is a matter of pride for our country. We hope to engage those most passionate about skating in Canada and allow them to share that feeling with all Canadians from the devices they have come to depend on.

New features will be announced and released regularly, along with archived and current results across all classification levels from the junior to the senior level.
