Shop RTO Releases Holiday Road Trip Tips for a Safe and Fun Labor Day Weekend(August 28, 2014)
Austin, TX (PRWEB) August 28, 2014
Labor Day is the tribute day for the American worker so Shop RTO offers the following tips for traveling on the road for the holiday. It is important to prepare properly as Labor Day weekend can be one of the busiest travel days of the year.
The route and timing needs to be planned out according to the holiday travel. Try to leave as early as possible by having as much packed the night before. Have a good breakfast before leaving and remember to take a bathroom or stretch break once every two hours.
If driving more than 4 hours, then switch drivers every two hours. Identify any remote stretches of roads, gas stations and restaurant stops on the way to know what to expect and when to stop for food or gas.
Use the GPS with the route already saved on the mobile computer while also having a printed copy. Be prepared to switch routes according to traffic conditions. Download real time apps that display traffic conditions.
Make sure all fluids, brakes and tire pressure are in order. Shop RTO recommends getting the oil changed at a service station that will check all of the necessary elements prior to travel. Fill the car with a full tank of gas the night before.
Be prepared for emergencies with a first aid kit, blankets, towels, flash light, duct tape, jumper cables, hand soap and/or sanitizer and an emergency stop sign or signal. Make sure the spare tire is full of air and all tire changing tools are in the car.
Carry extra water, healthy snack food such as granola or energy bars, wet cloths and a roll of paper towels and toilet paper. Charge all mobile devices and phones the night before and remember to bring the charger on the trip. Bring some cash for those places that do not take debit cards.
If you are visiting family or friends, call them when first leaving and one hour prior to arrival. Program all pertinent telephone numbers such as hotel, rental car, restaurants, etc. into the mobile phone for easy access.
Prepare for all kind of weather. Bring rain clothes and/or jackets, shorts, pants, long sleeves, sun block, insect repellent and a hat or cap.
Bring books, games, movies and music for the trip both on the road and at the destination. If bad weather keeps the family indoors then those can serve as a backup plan.
Shop RTO also recommends meal plans in advance. If you like to go out to eat at a certain place then make reservations, leave earlier or be prepared to wait as restaurant waiting times can be twice as long as usual. Otherwise, prepare homemade meals as much as possible to avoid long waits and expensive bills.
