STAR Center Announces Two New Programs to Build Social Awareness and Confidence in Kids(July 21, 2014)
Denver, CO (PRWEB) July 21, 2014
STAR (Sensory Therapies And Research) Center, the premier treatment center for children with sensory challenges launches two new programs for children who would benefit from therapeutic activities geared to improve social cognition and awareness. The programs are designed to benefit children who struggle socially or find making friends difficult, such as those with autism, ADHD or Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), and who can be moody, overly sensitive to noise, distracted in the classroom, overwhelmed on the playground, clumsy, overly aggressive or passive and withdrawn, to name just a few of the battles they face trying to get through each day.
The BRIDGE (Better Relationships, Interactions, Development and Growth through Engagement) Program is geared for children ages three and up who have had individual occupational or speech therapy and would benefit from fun therapeutic activities with another child, matched to increase social awareness skills and increase their ability to initiate play. Facilitated by STAR Center staff, the BRIDGE Program increases awareness of peers, builds turn taking and reinforces following a schedule and using routines for success in team activities.
The CREW (Communicating, Relationship-building, Exploring sensation, Working together) Program builds social cognition and awareness, communication, conversation and problem-solving skills in children ages 4 and up. Social skills lessons are taught within the context of games and play while meeting a childs individual sensory needs. The program is geared for verbal children that have basic peer awareness and would benefit from therapeutic activities to build reciprocal interactions. These positive experiences are foundational building blocks for a childs social development.
Social skills and development are critical to success in school and life, said Dr. Lucy Jane Miller, founder of the STAR Center. These programs are designed specifically for kids with sensory issues so that they can transition from individual therapy to more extensive social interactions with confidence.
Enrollment for both programs is available at STAR Center. For more information visit http://www.spdstar.org or call 303-221-7827.
