Paretos Tom Gillespie gets Fundraising Quest for The Donna Louise Childrens Hospice Trust off to a Flying Start

  (February 21, 2013)

Wilmslow, Cheshire (PRWEB UK) 21 February 2013

Sunday, 3rd February, saw 21 year-old Tom Gillespie, Marketing Development Executive at sales training and sales recruitment organisation Pareto, speed into his fundraising quest with a fantastic 41minute finish time at the Alsager 5 mile running race in Cheshire.

The race marked the first of 4 challenges Tom is proposing to undertake over the course of 2013, in a bid to raise £5,000 for The Donna Louise Childrens Hospice Trust in Stoke-on-Trent. Tom is raising funds in loving memory of his younger brother Ben, who sadly passed away on 20th December 2012 at the age of 17. Ben benefitted extensively from the fantastic care and support provided by The Donna Louise Childrens Hospice, a charity that dedicates itself to the provision of specialist care and support services for children with a shortened life expectancy, or to provide respite care for families who have children with severe physical disabilities. With no public funding, the charity is run entirely on donations and welcomes public support.

I cant even begin to describe the amazing support the Donna Louise Trust has provided for my family, not just in the weeks following Bens death, but also over the course of the last 5 years, when they helped provide respite care - usually several occasions a year, Tom explains.

Ben was not just a brother and friend, but a real inspiration to me as well. Knowing the amount that he went through, I want to put myself to the test as well raising money for the hospice in Bens memory, by going all out in my fundraising attempts this year. And to top it all off, I will be running each race in a full body lycra/spandex Spiderman suit (Bens favourite superhero)- making it even harder for myself still!

From the age of 20 months, Ben was diagnosed with a rare metabolic condition, leaving him severely physically disabled, and unable to walk and talk. Despite his complex physical needs, Ben was fluent in an adapted version of sign language and enjoyed a fantastic school and home life, loved and adored by all who met him. Ben regarded his brothers as his heroes, and despite being somewhat of a home bird relished the opportunity to spend respite weekends at the Donna Louise Childrens Hospice, who not only provided for Bens medical needs, but also catered to his love of gameshows and board games, keeping Ben entertained and safe during each and every visit. Following Bens passing in December, the hospice also offered the family residential support, caring for the family during the most difficult time of their lives.

Toms next challenge will be a 10K race, organised by The Donna Louise Childrens Hospice, followed by a further step up the racing ladder to the Potters Arf Marathon later in the year. With ambitious goals to set solid PBs in each, Tom has his work cut out for him over the coming months. Fundraising efforts will conclude with a grand finale in autumn 2013: an event still being debated, but with suggestions including a skydive or similar.

Toms current total exceeds £2,000, with over £400 of proceedings coming from staff and company contributions at sales training organisation Pareto. With several months of fundraising ahead, Tom hopes to smash his £5,000 target and continue the incredible work undertaken by The Donna Louise Childrens Hospice for future families in similar situations.
