MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/07/14 -- OnLive, the leader in on-demand cloud gaming and cloud computing, announced the appointment of veteran Silicon Valley executive and legal guru, James Alan Cook, as General Counsel and SVP, Business & Legal Affairs. An attorney and executive in the interactive entertainment and computer industries for more than 30 years, Jamie brings extensive experience in cloud computing, interactive gaming, intellectual property and next-gen transactional matters.
"Jamie has guided many of the best known players in the industry through important growth phases in their businesses, both at home and abroad," said Mark Jung, Executive Chairman. "We're excited to be able to take advantage of his ideas and insights as we explore new ways to leverage our proprietary technologies."
"OnLive is poised to create enormous waves in the ways that interactive games and other consumer and commercial software products are delivered to their target audiences," said Jamie Cook. "I'm excited to join OnLive's management team and to have the opportunity to assist in commercializing the company's exceptional technologies, IP and upcoming innovations."
Jamie was formerly General Counsel and EVP, Business & Legal Affairs at Gaikai Inc., a cloud technology company in Orange County, California, that was acquired by Sony Computer Entertainment in 2012.
In 2003, Jamie founded his own Silicon Valley law practice, representing well-known clients in the interactive entertainment, personal computing, semiconductor, social networking, new media and cloud computing industries in the U.S., European, South African and Asian markets. Prior to joining Gaikai, one of those clients was OnLive.
From 1993 to 2003, Jamie served as General Counsel of The 3DO Company (THDO), where he was responsible for managing legal and business affairs for the company's worldwide operations, including the development and commercial release of the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer, the world's first CD-ROM based video game and information system, and management and exploitation of the company's proprietary technologies and IP.
Before joining 3DO, Jamie was co-founder and Managing Partner of Cook & Lefevre, P.C., a Silicon Valley law firm representing leading video game, personal computer and entertainment companies in the U.S., European and Asian markets.
Prior to forming Cook & Lefevre, P.C., Jamie served as Senior Vice President and Counsel for the video game, home computer and international divisions of the original Atari, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Warner Communications, Inc. Jamie joined Atari in 1981, as Vice President and Counsel for Atari's Home Computer Division, with responsibility for managing its activities both in the U.S. and overseas.
"No other candidate has such targeted and relevant experience in the industries we serve," said Gary Lauder, Lead Investor. "As we launch new products, services and new lines of business, there's no question that Jamie is the right choice at the right time for OnLive."
