KickOff for the B3 Moving Image Biennale 2013 in Frankfurt am Main

(December 07, 2012)

FRANKFURT AM MAIN, GERMANY -- (Marketwire) -- 12/07/12 -- "The B3 KickOff at the public Theme Laboratory shows that the idea of the new B3 Moving Image Biennale 2013 is taking shape. It opens with a multi-faceted look at the moving image. B3 is setting a signal for change with its new approach, synergies and networking: from up-and-coming young talents to universities, colleges, cultural institutions and the creative sector," says Eva Kühne-Hörmann (Hessian Minister for Science and the Arts) at the opening today (Friday, 7th December 2012) in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

"In the digital age, the media are experiencing rapid changes: technically, economically and in terms of content. The so-called media-convergence, the progressive rapprochement between film, television and the Internet, calls for a new approach. With this in mind, it makes sense to start with the moving image, which embraces all fields," says Professor Wolfgang Thaenert (Director of the LPR Hessen -- the regulatory authority for commercial broadcasting in Hesse).

"B3 is a festival with, for and by film and media professionals. The international network and openness of Frankfurt makes it possible to combine creative ideas and create new platform," says Deputy Mayor Markus Frank (Head of Department of Economy, City of Frankfurt).

"The moving image plays in the media age of the 21 Century a central role. The B3 Biennale established a new, permanent and sustainable platform for industries and cross-media alliance of the moving image. The B3 KickOff is a positioning on the way to the first Biennale 2013 with festival, course and campus," says B3 project leader Prof. Bernd Kracke (President of the University of Art and Design Offenbach and executive speaker of the Hessen Film- and Media Academy, hFMA).

The B3 Biennale of the Moving Image 2013 in Frankfurt am Main is devoted to all aspects of the moving image in the areas of production, distribution and reception. The new events format combines films, television, communication, games, design, science, art and culture in an "alliance of the moving image." Institutions and people involved in the cultural and creative sectors are presenting themselves, holding discussions and creating networks. The public prelude prepares for the first B3 with a festival, exhibition and campus in 2013.

The spectrum of contributions at the B3 KickOff ranges from Oscar prize winner Thomas Stellmach to Christian Vogt, manager of the Oscar-winning special effects company Pixmondo; from the Ensemble Modern to the Forsythe Company, from Arte Creative to Sony, from the Deutsches Filminstitut to the Frankfurt Kunstverein; from computer games to animation workshops; from Visionale to Transmediale, from the Kassel artist Maja Oschmann to London fashion designer Carrie Munden; from the Goethe University to Harvard.

B3 is funded by the State of Hesse, the LPR Hessen and the City of Frankfurt am Main. B3 has been conceived and realized by the Offenbach University of Art and Design Offenbach in co-operation with the Hessen Film- and Media Academy (hFMA). F3 is supported by the Deutsche Bank and satis&fy.
