James D. Julia's August, 2014 Summer Antiques, Asian, And Fine Art Auction To Feature A Ming Dynasty Bowl Of Exceptional Quality, Design, And Importance(August 04, 2014)
Fairfield, Maine (PRWEB) August 04, 2014
James D. Julia, Inc., one of the nation's top ten antique auction houses, is excited to present this outstanding Chinese porcelain in association with the company's upcoming Antiques, Asian, and Fine Arts Auction to be held August 19th to 22nd, 2014. This treasure a 400 year old piece of living history - is certain to be of profound interest to collectors, Chinese historians, and fine art museums around the world.
The porcelain bowl, lot 4364, is conservatively estimated at $800 to $1,200. It measures 5-3/4 high by 11-1/2 in diameter. It features the mark of the Wan Li period, which ran from 1573 through 1619, on the base. The bowl itself is decorated in a very deep blue color which is quite rare for its production time frame. Both the inside and outside are finely painted with happy children playing games in a garden. The motif is quite joyful and endearing; the quality of the illustration resembles fine calligraphy.
This outstanding work was discovered through our full service Woburn, MA office, which was established several years ago to provide first rate identification, valuation, and auction services to our customers in the Boston and southern New England areas. According to Jim Callahan, Director of Asian Arts and a regular on PBS Antiques Roadshow since 1996, This amazing bowl caught my eye from the moment it was presented to me for review. There are so many factors that really put it in a class by itself including its size, cobalt blue decoration, important mark, and condition, among others. And, of course, its beautiful and timeless motif of children at play is universally appealing. This item is in the top five of any Ming-era item I have ever handled and that is saying a lot given my four decades in the business!
