Immersive Education Announces Bitcoin "Learn to Earn" Global Education Scholarship(June 02, 2014)
Boston, MA (PRWEB) June 02, 2014
The Immersive Education Initiative today announced Learn to Earn, the world's first global education scholarship fundable through Bitcoin.
The first scholarship grants will enable over 100 at-need teachers and students in California to attend the IMMERSION 2014 conference in Los Angeles this week. This fall, in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution, the second round of grants will enable students from K-12 schools to earn credit and virtual currency by completing intellectually challenging tasks using educational software and commercial video games.
Details and Bitcoin donation forms are online at http://summit.ImmersiveEducation.org/scholarship.html
Learn to Earn scholarship funds are allocated under two categories:
1. Professional Development: Funding for teachers, students and budding young entrepreneurs to attend educational conferences, receive training and certification on immersive technologies for education, and enroll in camps, clubs and classes that they could not afford otherwise.
2. Intellectual Enrichment: Rewards learners of all ages who complete intellectually challenging tasks using educational software as well as using commercial video games and software products that, while not specifically designed for educational purposes, support intellectually challenging and enriching activities (such as Minecraft, Portal, LittleBigPlanet, Civilization, Google Earth & Sky, Scribblenauts).
Todays announcement, the second in a series of forthcoming announcements related to the organizations adoption and support of Bitcoin, will be followed by the formation of an international council responsible for overseeing the scholarship and the Initiatives related cryptocurrency and economics activities.
Details of the organizations long-term plans for Bitcoin will be announced the morning of June 8th during the IMMERSION 2014 keynote address by the Initiatives founding director Aaron E. Walsh, after which the potential for Bitcoin as a universal virtual currency will be addressed during the Business and Economics module at the conference.
Sponsored by Disney and Target, and hosted by Loyola Marymount University in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution, IMMERSION 2014 features speakers and exhibits by Disney Animation Studios, the Smithsonian Institution, Google, Microsoft, Stratasys, Oculus, Oracle, Bitcoin and more.
Building on the success of the previous 8 years of Immersive Education conferences in Boston, the world's leading experts in immersion and immersive technology convene June 6-8 in Los Angeles California for IMMERSION 2014. The event opens with a special Arts & Culture reception at The Getty Center.
IMMERSION 2014 addresses the personal and cultural impact of digital technologies such as wearable computing (e.g., Google Glass and Oculus Rift), virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MXR), mechanical and neural interfaces, affective computing (systems that can recognize, interpret, process, and simulate human feelings and emotions), neuro-gaming technologies (that are used to create adaptive and radically compelling game experiences), 3D printing, personal robotics, virtual currencies and economies (universal digital micropayments, Bitcoin and related cryptocurrencies), telepresence, virtual worlds, simulations, game-based learning and training systems, immersive MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), and fully immersive environments such as caves and domes.
