Highland Hall Waldorf School Holds 58th Michaelmas Celebration

Northridge, CA (PRWEB) October 07, 2013

On Thursday, September 27, the Highland Hall Waldorf School community of parents, teachers and students gathered in the school's courtyard to celebrate the festival of Michaelmas. Known as the "festival of courage," Michaelmas is a seasonal celebration taking place around the time of the autumnal equinox. During Highland Hall's celebration, classes from grades 1 through 12 performed choral speaking and singing roles in a short play about St. Michael taming a fierce dragon, with the sixth grade students featured as the dragon.

"We celebrate Michaelmas, not because of any religious affiliation," says Lynn Kern, administrative director of Highland Hall, "but because St. Michael models the possibility of developing inner strength and courage. We all face dragons in our life, and moral courage and personal discipline are the character traits needed to face those challenges. We strive to nurture those qualities through our curriculum and school culture."

After the play, teachers and upper grade students lead the younger children in various challenge games in the play yards of Highland Hall's 11 acre campus.
