Give Kids Creative Fun and Kick Open the Door to Better Grades

Tampa, Florida (PRWEB) January 30, 2014

As a parent, there's the after school routine. Kids get picked up from school, cranky. When asked about leaning, they say 'No, not really'. Homework is a chore - there's Math, History, Science, and English - and the kids tackle them one by one, finishing each subject before starting the next. Of course they're bored - just look at the workload. When was the last time kids enjoyed learning? Schools have put significant resources into digital learning and online lessons hoping to better engage kids, but is it working?

Parents and schools are giving kids electronics as tools for learning. There are all sorts of devices - smart phones, tablets, laptops - but what exactly are kids doing with them? Should be educational, but it's probably Facebook, Snapchat or YouTube. Then there are mindless games like Candy Crush. It seems kids will try just about anything that's not required of them or part of the 'standardized' school day. It's true that they seem more creative while using some Apps, but is it actually helping their grades?

Don't be surprised - there aren't many educational apps available for ages 7-12. In fact, the number drops dramatically from Early Learning to Elementary School, as most developers focused on the younger demographic. What's more, the 'Education' section of the App Store containing Elementary and Middle School Apps has the same arrangement of core subjects kids have been trying to avoid - Math, History, Science, and English. What's missing? Art. If kids are lucky enough to still get Art in school, it's probably their favorite part of the day. So is there an App for that?

Now there is. It's called 'Start With Art!' by Madcap Logic. Featuring characters created by former Disney animators and professional educators, Start With Art! is designed to jump-start creativity and get your kids back to being engaged and energetic learners. Schools have increasingly dismissed Art Education as a 'special' in curriculum, yet it has been proven through government studies that Art Education measurably increases a child's academic achievement.

The four introductory lessons in Start With Art! are cross-curricular, which means that kids will be able to connect all of their 'core' subjects with Art. If they find History boring and static, the animated Art Guides in Start With Art! will make the inventions of Leonardo daVinci engaging and memorable. Animation can be educational, 'Start With Art!' meets the National Standards for the Visual Arts.

While in the App Store, check out Madcap Logic's 'Character Lab'. It's a creative new game that lets kids assemble their own characters to make funny messages for their friends. Let your thoughts be seen with Character Lab!
