Geeks With a Cause: ZeroTurnaround Shows That Java Developers Have Heart As Well As Brains

Boston, MA (PRWEB) August 27, 2014

ZeroTurnaround, the maker of revolutionary tools for developing quality software faster, is proud to announce its commitment and support for two deserving charitable organizations: Childs Play and Devoxx4Kids.

Each year, RebelLabs, the research and content division of ZeroTurnaround, compiles a report that looks at the tools, technologies and methodologies used by Java and JVM developers around the world. The latest survey included more than 2,000 responses from developers and focused on identifying trends, preferences and everyday challenges faced in Java development. Instead of incentivizing the developer community to take the survey by dangling prizes like iPads or cash in front of them, this year a donation of $0.50 was made for each completed survey to Childs Play, a game industry charity dedicated to improving the lives of children with toys and games in its network of more than 70 hospitals worldwide.

Providing Java developers with meaningful incentives to participate in community-driven initiatives like the annual Java Tools & Technologies Landscape report, while at the same time raising funds for like-minded causes is a true win, win, said Oliver White, Head of RebelLabs. Id love to up the ante with at least double participation in 2015, encouraging our peers and the community we serve to continue to pay-it-forward through their ongoing participation, interest and support of the Java Tools & Technologies Landscape report.

ZeroTurnaround raised more than $1,000 for Childs Play and hopes that the charitable donation will increase year-over-year as the popularity of the Java Tools & Technologies Landscape report continues to grow annually. The company also donated $1 for every person who registered to attend the vJUG panel meetup discussing the reports findings. The community of nearly 2,000 Java enthusiasts raised enough money from the one-time virtual gathering to purchase two Lego Mindstorm sets for Devoxx4Kids Quebec, the Canadian chapter of the global charity dedicated to inspiring teenagers in the fields of programming, robotics and engineering.

"As we were looking for sponsors to help organize our first event, we knew we wanted to work with companies that demonstrated a willingness to support charitable causes and had a strong reputation that we'd be proud to be associated with, said Alex Snaps of Devoxx4Kids Quebec. RebelLabs and ZeroTurnaround was a perfect match. Within a day, we were talking about Lego Mindstorms sets that would enable us to put a hands-on, robotic workshop together for 20 children in Montreal."
