Garmin fenix Revisited By HRWC - It's Nice to Get Wet

Bozeman, MT (PRWEB) March 10, 2013

The updated Garmin fenix has arrived. O.K., its not new but it supposedly has a tweak to prevent moisture from getting underneath the watches crystal.

Firmware updates have been completed in beta format to allow for ski-based data, similar to the Suunto Ambit and Garmin continues to roll out firmware updates for the fenix. "We plan on testing this over the weekend," says Squire.

Alpine skiing watches that track everything are rare and Suunto Ambit and Garmin fenix offer all the features you could want.

Steamed it, drown it, and voila, no moisture.

"Our Heart Rate Watch Company blog has been inundated in requests for test results from the new Garmin fenix, the one that will supposedly be more watertight, so here are those results", says Rusty Squire, President of the Heart Rate Watch Company. Squire adds, "We wore it in the shower and in a steam room for 30 minutes, took it for a swim and there was no moisture or vapor under the crystal, so the problem appears to be solved".

The serial number was 55,676 and part of the latest shipments from Garmin's production facility.

The Navigation King

With its 1,000 way points, as compared to only 100 for the Suunto Ambit, the Garmin fenix is unquestionably the navigation king. "What a lot of people don't talk about is the Garmin BaseCamp software, which is great for people that use this product as more of a navigator as opposed to a fitness device," says Squire. He adds, "I use Garmin Connect because I am more oriented toward the fitness side but the BaseCamp is awesome for explorers."

Built Burly and Built to Last

The Garmin fenix always passed the burly test, in fact, Heart Rate Watch Company tester John Yarington ran a jack hammer for six hours one day inadvertently with a fenix on his wrist. "For anyone that knows how tough and high vibration running a jackhammer is, you get the picture - he literally tried to kill the watch, but no dice", says Squire.

The Garmin fenix is still John Yarington's all-time favorite GPS watch and he is using his right now in Kyrgyzstan on a back country skiing expedition. "We really look forward to seeing his maps, photos and hearing the stories when he returns," says Squire.
