Funky Moves Expands to U.S. with New U.S. Website
ST. PAUL, Minn., June 12, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The new version of the website holds all of the information and options that the UK version holds, but with the different contact information. It also has the option to toggle back and forth between the UK version and the US version.
Funky Moves was first thought of and developed by Ralf Klinnert of the UK, who pitched it to the UK's Dragon's Den (the UK equivalent of the US Shark Tank). The product quickly picked up support and speed in the UK, especially after a study was performed showing the program to be more effective as a physical education tool than traditional physical education. The study took place in the UK and was designed by the Scottish Institute of Sport to measure speed, agility, and decision making skills in primary school children. The study included two age groups. Within each age group, there was a control group who continued their normal physical education and an intervention group who used the Funky Moves program for 5 weeks. Each group was tested before and after the intervention, and in both age groups, those who used the Funky Moves program showed faster times in all of the testing. Their teachers also reported an increase of desirable behavior and a decrease in undesirable behavior.
The Funky Moves system consists of four brightly colored cones, each equipped with both sound and light features as well as buttons on the top for use in the games. These sounds and lights can be programmed and customized by the teacher via remote. The cones also come with a manual that includes fifty different games that can be played with this program, though it is not limited to these fifty games.
Each Funky Moves kit comes with four cones, a carrying back, a charging station, remote control, and the Funky Manual, which includes lesson plans and games. Many of these games meet NASPE standards for effective physical education. The manual was written by world-renowned Dr. Lisa Witherspoon of the University of South Florida.
