Elite Email Analysis: Email Marketing Trends for January 2013
(January 23, 2013)Toronto, ON (PRWEB) January 23, 2013
The top email marketing trends for the first three weeks of January 2013 include mentions of the Super Bowl (NFL Playoffs), New Years Resolutions and the Golden Globes. Email marketers were quick to jump on these hot topics in an effort to make their email newsletters more timely and relevant for their target audience.
Elite Email, a world leader in email marketing solutions, analyzed a random sample from the millions of emails sent from small and medium sized businesses in a variety of vertical markets to get a pulse on the hottest trending topics in the email space. Only organizations located in the USA and Canada were analyzed to capture a picture of what the North American marketer was discussing.
The Super Bowl and the NFL playoffs are a recurring trend each year in January as marketers seek to capitalize on all the attention given to the winding down of the NFL season. The January analysis revealed that retailers and restaurants/bars were the biggest proponents of putting their Big Game and playoff promotions front and center in their emails. Sports are particularly popular for restuarant email marketers who offered coupons redeemable only during NFL playoff games to drive people into their establishments. Retailers in the electronics vertical began promoting all sorts of audio-video equipment as early as the first week of January to encourage people to create the perfect viewing environment in their homes as the playoffs began.
One notable difference from the Super Bowl and Playoff 2012 trends is that while the subject matter remained the same, many organizations used their email marketing software to create a more engaging campaign that was based on the outcome of games that were still to be played. This years analysis revealed promotions that offered a specific item on sale if Team A won or a different item on sale if Team B won. Immediately following the game the organization would send out another follow-up email campaign announcing which deal was in effect.
As someone who has a passion for email marketing and football, it is great to see marketers fusing these two things together to create highly engaging campaigns, said Robert Burko, CEO of Elite Email. Its always inspiring to see just how creative people can be when they have a limitless tool like email.
New Years resolutions was a popular trend that appeared in an overwhelming amount of email marketing campaigns during the first week of January. As the calendar crossed over into another year, talking about resolutions was a great way for marketers to stay relevant to what their audience was thinking about. Many organizations posed the question to their audience What is your New Years Resolution?, and then provided their own list coupled with products they were promoting to help meet those goals. Organizations in the health and well-being verticals had a large spike in email sending volume based on this topic.
