Dahna Benders Music with a Mission(March 13, 2013)
Smithtown, NY (PRWEB) March 13, 2013
For Long Island philanthropist and vocalist Dahna Bender, fighting for the rights of animals has become a driving force in her life. Leveraging her talents as a singer, Bender is once again using music to raise awareness and much-needed funds for the cause this year, her focus is help raise awareness about puppy mills (commercial breeding mills) and rescue outreach -- and will soon release her second CD, Christmas: Giving of the Heart II to benefit those who work hard to save the lives of animals nationwide.
This week she has partnered with National Mill Dog Rescue, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization thats rescued, rehabilitated and placed more than 7,300 dogs. With this fully self-funded project, Bender will donate 100% of the profits of her new CD, which will be released in time for the holiday 2013 season.
The cruel realities of the commercial dog breeding industry have been hidden from consumers, people who only want to love and be loved by a wonderful companion. The tragedy is that these animals live in horrible conditions, theyre treated inhumanely, said Bender. Truly, if the world knew about the atrocities happening in puppy mills they would be sickened. National Mill Dog Rescue has been working to save dogs from this nightmare since 2007. I am proud to align with them and support their efforts with my new CD.
Run almost solely by volunteers, National Mill Dog Rescue has a mission to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home discarded breeding dogs and to educate the general public about the cruel realities of the commercial dog breeding industry. Through widespread informative efforts, National Mill Dog Rescue hopes to educate the public to acquire their companion animals through reputable breeders or, better yet, from shelters and rescue groups across the country.
A singer with a rich, golden voice, Bender is working with Airgo Music and Grammy-nominated producer, songwriter and remixer Jimmy Greco, who helped fuel success for superstars Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears among others and wrote several Billboard #1 songs. Producer Russ DeSalvo, who worked with icons Celine Dion and Lionel Richie, is also collaborating with Bender on her latest CD.
The collection of holiday classics will include Silent Night, Sleigh Ride, O Holy Night and more. It will be made available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon and other digital retailers along with a hardcopy CD that can be ordered through Argo Music (http://www.airgomusic.com) and on Dahna Benders Website
(http://www.dahnabender.com) with national distribution coming soon.
Benders last CD was a tremendous success. Profits were donated to the American Humane Societys Red Star Animal Emergency Service division to help dogs and children who were displaced as a result of the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy.
I thank God for being blessed to be able to have the resources and support to accomplish this goal for the greater good. I have believed from its inception that a completely selfless project can only be successful as its purpose is pure, said Bender. The new CD will help raise awareness about puppy mills. Our goal is to inspire people to take action, to demand new legislation, and to raise funds to help non-profit organizations get this important work done.
Bender discovered her gift of song when she was a young girl living in Massapequa, Long Island. She was adopted from Italy as a baby one of the last before Italy ceased international adoptions from Angel Guardian Home in Brooklyn, NY by Louise and Harry Bender.
Angel Guardian Home was a familiar haven for Louise, who spent her life there as an orphan until the age of 12 when she was taken in by a foster family and, sadly, treated as an orphan. Harry, legally blind from birth, found Louise on a blind date, and married on June 29, 1952.
When not able to conceive biological children, they went back to Angel Guardian Home and were blessed with Dahna, now their second adopted child. With a blessed childhood, one filled with song, and dance and study, Dahna went on to succeed in business and later, in music.
Bender began her study of music studying under legendary vocal coach Katie Agresta from the age of 6, whose students have included Cyndi Lauper, Jon Bon Jovi, Steven Tyler, Paul Young, Sophie B. Hawkins, Dave Matthews and Nathan Lane. Since that time Bender has performed since 1992 with the New York Islanders singing the National Anthem at games several times a season.
The project Giving of the Heart has struck a chord with Bender, driving a renewed passion to use music to further animal rights awareness.
As we tread through this process its amazing to see it in action and all the wonderful people that are magnetically drawn to us to help. To those people I am forever grateful, said Bender.
