Cultural Vistas' STEM LAUNCH Initiative to Send Morehouse & Spelman Students & Faculty to Germany
(March 06, 2013)New York, NY (PRWEB) March 06, 2013
Cultural Vistas, through the generous funding and support of The Halle Foundation, is pleased to unveil the STEM Learning and Understanding New Career Horizons (LAUNCH) program.
In the summer of 2013, STEM LAUNCH will provide up to 18 students and two faculty members representing Morehouse and Spelman colleges in Atlanta with the opportunity to travel to Germany for two weeks (May 28 June 9) to learn firsthand of the global nature and prospective careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
"We are thrilled to partner with these two venerable institutions," said Cultural Vistas President and CEO Robert Fenstermacher. "Through this program, we hope to not only engage the next generation of leaders in a global conversation about the importance of STEM education, but also to empower them and their career development through international and intercultural awareness they develop while abroad."
Cultural Vistas will utilize its expansive global partner network in organizing this unique and well-rounded tour of STEM fields in Berlin and Munich. The program will be administered in three distinct phases, beginning in April with a virtual learning seminar to orient participants from two of the nations most revered HBCU institutions to the current landscape of STEM education and professions in Europe.
The group will convene in Atlanta for a one-day pre-departure orientation on May 27 before heading to Berlin. Escorted by Cultural Vistas staff, the contingent of Morehouse and Spelman students and faculty will spend 13 full days living, learning, and experiencing Germany before the program comes to an end on June 9 in Munich.
The experience does not conclude upon their return stateside as each participant will complete a service project during the Fall 2013 semester that applies their overseas learning and shares the knowledge gained on their respective campuses.
The majority of program costs, including airfare, accommodations, travel within Germany, activities, and logistical support prior to departure and upon re-entry, are covered by a generous grant from The Halle Foundation.
