Casey Trees to Transform Downtown D.C. Street Parking into Public Park

  (September 18, 2012)

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) September 18, 2012

On Friday, Sept. 21, Casey Trees will transform three metered parking spaces in Downtown Washington, D.C., into a temporary park to raise awareness of the environmental, social and economic benefits of the Districts trees as part of PARK(ing) Day 2012.

PARK(ing) Day is an annual event where people transform metered parking spaces into public parks and other social spaces. Last year, groups from around the world created 975 PARK installations in 162 cities in 35 countries. Casey Trees park at the intersection of 12th and G Streets NW is slated to be one of three official PARK(ing) Day sites in the Washington, D.C. metro.

This years design demonstrates how we can improve the livability of our city by replacing concrete and asphalt with large shade trees and green space, said Mark Buscaino, Executive Director of Casey Trees.

Casey Trees park design will replace 660 square feet of impervious surface with a landscape of 15 trees from Casey Tree Farm in Berryville, Va., and an assortment of shrubs, grasses and sod. There will also be spaces within the park for visitors to eat lunch, take a coffee break or play games. Casey Trees staff will be onsite from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

To locate Casey Trees PARK(ing) Day installation along with all other temporary parks, visit PARK(ing) Days official map and zoom into the Metro Center area of Washington, D.C.
