Brussels Branch of the Churches of Scientology for Europe Hosts Human Rights Events

The Brussels Branch of the Churches of Scientology for Europe hosted a human rights gala and concert featuring Russian coloratura soprano Evgenia Laguna and a presentation by Raul Arias Perez, Executive Director of Youth for Human Rights Mexico. Held in Brussels on December 10 in the Church auditorium at Boulevard de Waterloo 100-103, the gala commemorated the 64th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Agnes Bron, Public Affairs Officer for the Church, released a new brochure, Scientology: How We HelpUnited for Human Rights: Making Human Rights a Global Reality, and presented an overview of the work of Scientologists in Brussels and around the world to promote human rights through support of United for Human Rights.
United for Human Rights unites individuals, organizations and governments in raising awareness of and respect for human rights at all levels of society and reaches millions of people annually through its publications, audiovisual presentations, human rights educational activities and Youth for Human Rights World Tours.
Raul Arias Perez described the role of Youth for Human Rights Mexico, in cooperation and coordination with other nongovernmental organizations and government officials, in bringing about human rights reforms in Mexico, including the governments incorporating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights into the nations constitution.
Also on December 10, the Church hosted a conference, Human Rights and Civil Society: the Impact of Grassroots Activities, at International Auditorium in Brussels. The conference included addresses by prominent human rights attorneys, educators and representatives of human rights NGOs, a panel discussion and question and answer period.
Scientologists conduct human rights awareness activities around the world, part of a grassroots movement to make human rights an everyday reality. Scientologists on five continents engage in collaborative efforts with government agencies and nongovernmental organizations to bring about broad-scale awareness and implementation of the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the worlds premier human rights document.

Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, Human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream, and the Scientology religion is based on the principles of human rights. The Code of a Scientologist calls on all members of the religion to dedicate themselves to support true humanitarian endeavors in the fields of human rights.
