BRIT® Celebrates the North Texas Native Prairies with its Third Annual Prairie Day Event(April 16, 2014)

The Botanical Research Institute of Texas will hold its third annual Prairie Day event at BRIT on Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. 1 p.m. This is BRITs free, annual, outdoor celebration highlighting the beauty and vibrancy of the North Texas native landscape with family-oriented, hands-on activities, events, demonstrations, and entertainment that showcase the native grasses, wildflowers, and vegetation that blankets the BRIT campus.
There will be 33 exhibitors as well as a variety of food trucks for drinks and food. Activities, exhibits, and demonstrations include: guided prairie walks; making seedballs; a solar oven cooking demonstration; paper flower-making, spinning, toys, and games by the Log Cabin Village; face painting by Merry Heart Face Painters; balloon twisters by An Occasion Station; and prairie artifacts from the Fort Worth Zoo.
Booths will be set-up on the BRIT prairie highlighting native plants by the following organizations: Fort Worth Nature Center, River Legacy Foundation, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Bob Jones Nature Center, Great Plains Restoration Council, Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center, Van Zandt Cottage, Camp Fire First Texas, and FitWorth.
This years entertainment includes live music by Everybody's Darlin' and Short Fuse. Music starts at 9 a.m. At 10:45 a.m. the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center will present its Birds of Prey presentation.
Back by popular demand is BRITs prairie dog mascot naming contest. BRIT is hosting two special guest prairie dogs from Citizens for Prairie Dogs. The naming contest began April 1 on BRITs Facebook and Twitter pages. The winner(s) of the naming contest and the prairie dog names that they submitted will be announced at 11:45 a.m. on the main stage.
New for this year, Jetta Operating Company, Inc. lends its corporate support with event sponsorship. The official name of Prairie day is: BRIT Prairie Day Presented by Jetta Operating Company, Inc.
