ArtSchools.com Discusses 3 Ways Arts Can Benefit Elementary School Children(February 21, 2014)
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) February 21, 2014
ArtSchools.com, a directory of the top art schools in the country, details one elementary schools proposal to increase spending for art programs and discusses three ways arts education can benefit children.
According to a February 4th article posted on the Amherst Bulletin titled, Added funds for arts education considered in Amherst elementary budget, the Amherst elementary schools in Massachusetts recently proposed a budget that facilitates increased spending on the arts by 2.2 percent. If approved, the schools would hire art, music and physical education teachers full time instead of part time.
In the article Amherst School Committee member Kathleen Traphagen says the new proposal shows commitment to the arts and she is excited about what it could mean for the students education. It provides more ways for children to be engaged and belong to the school community, she says in the article.
Andrew Girard, a representative for ArtSchools.com, a directory of top art schools, says art is an essential part of education and can benefit young children. Girard lists three ways art can benefit children.
1. Expands cultural awareness. Not only does art highlight the histories of specific civilizations and geographical areas, it also allows children to catch a glimpse of the culture and life in that part of the world. It opens them up to new things and makes them more receptive to other cultures, he says.
2. Improves academic performance. In many studies, children who have involvement in the arts generally perform better in the classroom, Girard says. Art, music, and drama all help children with their analytical skills and learning abilities.
3. Enhances motor skills and language development. Drawing at a young age is crucial in helping children write and improve their motor skills, he explains. It has also been known to promote language development and verbal expression.
