Anaheim Ducks Ticket Deals on Whiztix.com

  (February 25, 2013)

(PRWEB) February 25, 2013

The Ducks didnt make too many major offseason moves after struggling a season ago, but its been one quiet signing that has helped propel Anaheim from the cellar of the Pacific Division to the top of the heap in 2013.

After posting a respectable 2.57 goals-against average a season ago, Jonas Hiller was expected to be the man in net this year as well. However, after Hiller gave up 12 goals in his first three starts, Bruce Boudreau decided to give 30-year-old rookie Viktor Fasth a chance, and he has certainly done nothing to disappoint.

In his first eight NHL games, Fasth is a perfect 8-0-0 with a 1.78 goal-against average and a .933 save percentage. Anaheim made sure that the two-time reigning goalie of the year in the Swedish Elite League will be sticking around for a while by signing Fasth to a two-year, $5.8 million extension on Wednesday.

Anaheim is not only getting stellar play from its new netminder, but its offense has been clicking as well. The Ducks currently rank fourth in the NHL in scoring, and theyve done so with an extremely balanced offensive attack. No Anaheim player has more than five goals on the season, but nine different players have lit the lamp at least four times in 2013.

At the age of 42, right winger Teemu Selanne leads the Ducks with 15 points on the season. Centers Saku Koivu and Ryan Getzlaf are right behind him with 14 apiece, and right winger Bobby Ryan has contributed 13 points of his own.

Another key to Anaheims 12-2-1 start has been the play of its top defensive pairing of Francois Beauchemin and Sheldon Souray. Thus far in 2013, Beauchemin could very well be the Ducks most-improved player. After posting a -14 plus-minus rating in 2011-12, Beauchemin has a +14 rating through 15 games this year and has already racked up seven points.

Signed to a three-year deal in the offseason, Souray has excelled alongside Beauchemin in a Ducks uniform. The 12-year veteran has a +13 plus-minus rating and has already tallied four goals after netting just six all of last season.

The Ducks are currently playing hot hockey will look to keep it going when they host the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday night. They also host the Predators on Wednesday 2/27.
