#1 New Year's Resolution For Many -- Finding a Job

  (January 15, 2013)

Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) January 15, 2013

While some people kicked off diet and workout regimens to start 2013 on the right foot, the New Year greeted many other Americans with challenging news about the U.S. job market. The latest jobs report from the Department of Labor shows African American unemployment rates rose to 14% in December (up from 13.2% in the prior month) and Hispanic unemployment at 9.6% (down slightly from nearly 10% in November). That figure compares to 7.8% overall unemployment, leaving a disproportionate number of minorities affected by our countrys slow job growth. Despite this tough picture, Maryland-based OppsPlace believes its web-based solution can help to change the jobs outlook for minorities in a big way.

Businessman Robert L. Johnson founded OppsPlace to create a unique web platform designed to help people of color find jobs and business opportunities with leading U.S. companies. Johnsons mission was to meet two of the biggest challenges facing minority Americans today unemployment and lack of access to business opportunities in major Fortune 500 companies. The OppsPlace platform offers thousands of entry-level, mid-level and senior executive jobs from companies who value diversity and inclusion through a single easy-to-use portal. More than 45 companies have signed on to OppsPlace to find talented, diverse candidates while helping minority Americans find employment and business opportunities.

With new job opportunities added daily, OppsPlace applicants can easily view a database of vacancies in a variety of fields and geographic locations. Users can also network with companies and other professionals to access career tools, advice, and best practices on finding a job, navigating the employment process, and moving up the career ladder.

Minority unemployment remains disproportionately higher in the minority population than unemployment of non-minority populations across the U.S., said Kelli Richardson Lawson, President and COO of OppsPlace, LLC. The most recent jobs report indicates that employed minorities lost ground, but OppsPlace is poised to assist in reversing that trend by connecting job seekers with hiring managers and small business owners with contracting opportunities with some of the most prestigious companies in the country, she continued. OppsPlace is ready to get people hired and grow businesses.
